Heifers Strolling Before Sundown

Sundown you better take care
If The Farmer finds you creeping in the wrong pasture
Sometimes I think it's a sin
When I'm jumpin' the fence to eat greener grass again

Of course, how can any cow blame us? The warm weather we had a weekend ago, coupled with some rain has started to get some new growth on The Farmer's hay fields. Not a lot, but even his wheat and rye fields look a little better. Maybe I have sampled them, too, but you didn't hear that from me!

Didn't you get the memo? Spring is here! So, maybe it isn't real warm today, but I, we, have to admit the grass over there did look tasty! In fact it was.

And if The Farmer was not happy we went out for a little stroll, so be it. We followed him like lemurs off the cliff when he came and shook a bucket of grain and emptied it into the feed trough. Now, everyone should be happy. Besides, I still know where the hole in the fence is!

Green Dairy Cows On St. Patrick's Day

In ancient Irish legends fairies and other immortals wore green and people did as well to encourage their crops to grow. Why should we let traditions such as these fall to the wayside? Could they be more than traditions? What if the simple act of wearing green brings more than luck and good fortune? St. Patrick's Day, here I come!

Dairy Cows Celebrate St. Patrick's Day
More milk! The best feed I can imagine! An enchanting evening sleeping on a bed of four leaf clovers! That would probably be an edible bed, now that I think about it. How can this go wrong?

I will leave you with this Irish-ish blessing:

May your pockets be heavy and your heart be light,
May good luck pursue you each morning and night.
May your dreams come true be ye bald or hairy,
As long as you're eating plenty of dairy!

What Do Dairy Cows Eat?

Cows Love To Eat Hay

We've heard a few discussions about what dairy cows like to eat and I thought I would clear everything up. First let me say we enjoy the epitome of fine dining.

Besides hay the farmer also harvests wheat, rye, and ryegrass and stores it in the silos in the spring. He does the same in the fall with his corn. The silage stays green, fresh, and delicious!

Last, but not least, we do enjoy some tasty grain. The Farmer has the silage tested and a complimentary grain is selected that will help complete our nutritional requirements. You can't eat poorly and still make lots of nutritious milk (or be a good secret agent)!

The Hidden Value of Milk

It has taken some time to make our response video to The Hidden Costs of Milk video that was sent to us. My agents quickly developed a video idea, but Oscar winners Ang Lee and Jennifer Lawrence did not respond to our offers of working on it. We turned to the next best thing: Craigslist. We placed an ad for director and actor and here is the finished product: The Hidden Value of Milk.

There's more to milk than just great taste! The hidden value of milk is in the 9 essential nutrients, bone health, protein, heart health, being part of a well balanced diet, and so much more!

I'm expecting awards and recognition for the video to be rolling in all season.
